Marine is a competitive business and keeping a ship operational is of crucial importance to our customers. As regards service delivery, our aim is to serve them both well and quickly, regardless of where their ship is currently located. And whether it concerns the supply of spare parts or the use of a service engineer on site, everything revolves around preventing or reducing downtime for the customer.
To support this aim, we have recently expanded our mechanical service network and have also entered into a partnership with two new partners, Albwardy Damen in the UAE and Padgett Swann Machinery in the US.
Albwardy Damen is based in the UAE with divisions in Dubai, Sharjah and Fujairah. Albwardy Damen is also active operationally in Sohar and Salalah in the Sultanate of Oman. Their repair portfolio includes mechanical work such as engine and pump overhauling, hydraulic and electrical works. Albwardy Damen also offers hull and deck steel repairs including pipework, hydro-blasting and painting works, as well as operating a diving division that conducts class surveys, underwater repairs, anchor recoveries and hull cleaning services.
“The UAE is a known hub for marine transportation and boasts some of the busiest anchorages in the world. It is logical that MarFlex would choose a globally known partner such as Albwardy Damen to expand their service network to the Middle East region. Together MarFlex and Albwardy Damen can now expand the services that we can offer to our clients,” said Mark Pearson, Operations Director of Albwardy Damen.
Padgett Swann Machinery
Padgett Swann Machinery has been serving the marine and industrial markets for over 70 years. Their main facility with its machining and fabrication capabilities is located in Tampa. A division is also opening soon in the Port of Galveston which will provide all the services necessary to support all incoming maritime shipping as well as the power generation, chemical and wastewater needs in the Gulf States area. Padgett Swann has established a solid foundation and reputation for building and repairing marine underwater gear that includes propellers, shaft lines, bearing arrangements and rudder assemblies for large ships, tug boats and OSV’s. The knowledge they have gained over the years has also helped them to diversify into high tolerance pump repairs. Their pump division specializes in equipment life extensions on all make and models of vertical turbine and large split case pumps. And with its currently available manual and CNC equipment, Padgett Swann can handle all wastewater treatment and power industry needs.
“We are excited to provide support for MarFlex in the US. With the improved efficiencies, operations capability and modular design coupled with the variable speed drive system configuration, we feel this is the pump system of the future. With this redundancy and durability of the product line, customer downtime will be kept to a minimum – every vessel Maintenance and Repair Superintendent’s dream,” explained Brian Orme, Vice President and General Manager of Padgett Swann Machinery.
Douwe van Gorkum, Chief Commercial Officer of MarFlex said, “We think that both parties represent a professional and reliable partner for us. Their service engineers have gone through an extensive training program and we are very satisfied with the initial experiences we have had with them on board with our customers.”
